trauma-sensitive Listening Journeys for returning to yourself
Begin with Regulation.
Sometimes we understand our recurring patterns, yet still find ourselves reacting before we have a choice. 1st-Step Home offers 6 trauma-sensitive Listening Journeys to help you recognise these patterns, settle your nervous system, and return to greater calm, awareness and choice.
FIGHT • FLIGHT • FLOAT • FREEZE • FAWN • REPEAT
Each 30-minute Listening Journey focuses on a common survival response, gently helping you recognise what may be happening within you and discover new ways of responding.
With regular listening, everyday experiences can gradually become Homecoming Anchors—gentle reminders of safety and regulation. Simple moments such as pausing, breathing, swallowing, noticing your heartbeat, smelling fresh air, feeling your feet or other points of contact, and orienting to your surroundings can become invitations to come home to yourself.
This pack of 6 comes with Track Selector Tool and Journal.

Explore the six Listening Journeys.

1. FIGHT — Return to Balanced Self
You may feel, “I react before I can stop myself — and it’s not how I want to be.”
Many people have felt caught in moments of overwhelm or defensiveness in similar ways.
Some have found that this grounding track, using a control room therapeutic story, helps them reconnect with calm, steadiness, and more balanced responses.

2. FLIGHT — Return to Calm Self
You may feel, “I keep avoiding, overthinking, feeling restless, and wanting to get away.”
Many people have felt pulled by a similar urge to escape, withdraw, keep moving, or search for relief elsewhere.
Some have found that this therapeutic story, using metaphor and guided imagery, helps them reconnect with calm, curiosity, confidence, and greater choice in how they respond, rather than organising life around escape.

3. FLOAT — Return to Present Self
You may feel, “I drift away or disconnect — especially when things feel too much.”
Many people have felt distant from themselves or disconnected from the present moment in similar ways.
Some have found that this grounding track, using a space cell therapeutic story helps them reconnect with presence, safety, and aliveness.

4. FREEZE — Return to Expressive Self
You may feel, “I shut down or go blank — when I actually want to respond.”
Many people have felt emotionally stuck, numb, or unable to move forward in similar ways.
Some have found that this restorative track, using an artwork therapeutic story, helps them reconnect with movement, expression, and renewed vitality.

5. FAWN — Return to Sovereign Self
You may feel, “I say yes to keep the peace — and lose myself in the process.”
Many people have felt caught in patterns of over-adapting or people-pleasing in similar ways.
Some have found that this strengthening track, using a dancer therapeutic story, helps them reconnect with boundaries, voice, and grounded selfhood.

6. REPEAT — Return to Regulated Self
You may feel, “I keep falling into the same patterns — even when I understand why.”
Many people have felt trapped in recurring emotional or behavioural loops in similar ways.
Some have found that this regulating track, using a carousel therapeutic story, helps them reconnect with awareness, completion, and new possibilities.
