Mysterious Boat

This season, the metaphor of boat sailed in, again. I was in a Christian contemplative Zoom when the leader introduced St Brendan's Voyage as visio divina artwork exercise, using "The Mysterious Boat" painting by French artist Odilon Redon 1982 (below). A spontaneous poem flowed through me.

Poem Title: "Sea of Suffering"

riding the waves of the meadow

in a royal boat called Devotion

golden standard, golden sail

glorious grey clouds with light looming

mountainous shadow yonder

sitting on Christ’s lap we navigate

or is it inner Christ holding my pilgrim?

white waves of flowers splashes

no longer stormy sea

ocean of suffering

no longer drowning

ahoy, look forward

aground, stay put

and ride the waves

washing ashore

with more fragrant flowers
